Cannabis and Spasticity

How can plant-based cannabinoids offer benefits for Spasticity? Read this summary of the research on cannabis and Spasticity.

Cannabinoids have shown promise in the management of spasticity, a condition characterized by involuntary muscle stiffness and spasms often seen in multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and other neurologic disorders. Through modulation of the endocannabinoid system which promotes homeostasis, cannabinoid compounds can reduce excessive neuronal excitability and improve muscle relaxation. Some clinical studies have demonstrated reductions in spasticity scores, improved mobility, and enhanced quality of life for patients, while maintaining a generally favorable safety profile. CBD, may provide added benefit by reducing inflammation and neuroexcitability associated with spasticity.
