Cannabis and Neuropathic Pain

How can plant-based cannabinoids offer benefits for Neuropathic Pain? Read this summary of the research on cannabis and Neuropathic Pain.

Neuropathic pain—caused by nerve injury or dysfunction—can be especially hard to treat, often resisting common pain medications. Plant cannabinoids have long been studied as a potential therapy, and the 2017 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine concluded that there is substantial evidence supporting cannabinoids in the treatment of chronic pain, including neuropathic pain. A recent 2025 systematic review found that cannabinoids were associated with clinically meaningful reductions in neuropathy, alleviating pain and related symptoms. For many patients, these natural compounds provide an important alternative or complement to standard treatments, offering relief when few other options work.
